Wow Waters: Adding Oomph to your H2O

June 17, 2015 Kristi Harter

You know you need to drink a lot of water every day. Probably more than you think.  The Institute of Medicine says the average man needs 13 cups of liquid a day and the average woman needs nine cups.

While those beverages can include all kinds of drinks from juices to milk to coffee, water should be the majority of your daily fluid intake.

Still drinking plain water can get tiring so here are a few ways can you jazz up your H2O:

Flat – This typically refers to sparking water where the bubbles have flattened. Often it’s an interchangeable term referring to tap or plain water. While this water type isn’t fancy, it will quench your thirst!

Mineral – Water bottled from a mineral spring that contains minerals like calcium and magnesium, as well as salts.

Carbonated – Carbonated waters including sparkling water and seltzer contain carbon dioxide gas that’s been pressure dissolved into the water.  You can buy carbonated waters at the store or create them at home using soda makers.

Infused flavors – Up the flavor and visual appeal of your water by adding refreshing fruits and veggies to your glass. Consider adding cubed watermelon; lemon, oranges or lime slices; cucumber wedges; raspberries and blueberries; sliced strawberries, mint; or kiwi to your cup. Trust us, these subtle changes boost your water’s flavor, which will make you reach for another sip. You can add the fruits and vegetables at any time but steeping them in the water overnight in a pitcher in the fridge will help maximize the infused tastes.

You can also add subtle flavor by freezing fruits or veggies, like the berries and citrus mentioned above, with water in ice cube trays. The infused ice will melt slowly in your drink for yummy pick-me-up.

No matter which kind of water you prefer, remember that presentation counts too! Be sure to serve your refreshing water in a stylish cup, glass or container. If you like your drink ware, chances are you’ll be thirsty for lots of H2O.

Cheers to tasty and healthy hydration!
